The Industrial Union launches new political industrial action – one-day strikes in Savonia-Karelia
The Industrial Union is continuing its one-day strikes at 13 workplaces in the electoral district of Southwest Finland on Thursday 9 November.
The strikes are in protest of the Government’s actions. The Government Programme’s impairments to working life primarily target one specific group: employees. The Industrial Union’s action is part of SAK’s joint Serious Grounds campaign, which aims to defend workers against the Government’s one-sided plans to impose cuts and weaken workers’ rights. The workplaces participating in the strikes are Exel Composites – Joensuun tehdas (Kivara), Fiskars Finland – Sorsakosken astiatehdas, Genelec – Iisalmi, Hanza Levyprofiili – Joensuu, Högfors GST – Leppävirta, Iisalmen Sahat – Ipowood, Jeld-Wen Suomi – Kuopio, Junttan – Kuopio, Medisize – Ensolantien yksikkö, Medisize – Lammintien yksikkö, SP Stainless – Toivala, Sumitomo SHI FW Energia – Varkaus and Suomivalimo – Iisalmi.
The strikes do not extend to emergency work or to work that is necessary for the protection of life and health. One-day strikes organised by the Industrial Union observe a five-day notice period.
